One way to improve the effectiveness of public schools in large
districts is to have as many people as possible studying,
thinking, and talking about education at their own school. Web
page [X] ACADEMIC QUALITY
ASSURANCE AT EACH SCHOOL explains a concept that does just that.
Ohio residents who would like to have the option of forming an
academic quality assurance council at their public school
building should lobby either their school board members or
legislators in the Ohio General Assembly.
As of this up-date, no local-school-council bills have been introduced in the Ohio General Assembly. Voters may obtain contact information for their representative and senator by calling either 800--282-0253 or 614--466-8842.
The local-school-council idea is not yet supported by a majority of Columbus School Board members. The most common reason given by the board members is, "I don't see much public interest in the councils." This perceived lack of interest is based on the board members' personal experience. Only a few people call them each year to ask for this reform. Columbus residents will find contact information for school board members on page [X] CONTACT INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS OF THE COLUMBUS SCHOOL BOARD.
