UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by
the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. The Declaration has seven Whereases and 30 Articles. Selected parts of the Declaration are given below. A copy of the full Declaration is printed in the book The Human Rights Reader. [See Pages 407-412
in Ref. 5 below] [X]
"The General Assembly proclaims this Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member states themselves and among the peoples of territories under jurisdiction."
"Article 13
1. Everyone has the right of freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
2. Everyone has the right to
leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country."
"Article 17
1. Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.
2. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his
property."
UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION 242
On November 22, 1967 the United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 was adopted unanimously. Part of the Resolution reads as shown below. The full text of Resolution 242 is printed in
